PURPOSE

Use this article to connect your Facebook and Instagram accounts to Emplifi UGC so the platform can collect content from your Facebook Page and Instagram business account. It explains the three account requirements imposed by Meta’s API, shows how to verify each one before you connect, and walks through connecting both profiles from Settings → Social Profiles. It also covers what to do if the briefcase icon does not appear immediately after you connect them.

Before You Begin

To collect content from Instagram or Facebook, you must connect both your Facebook and Instagram accounts from Settings → Social Profiles in the Emplifi UGC module. Confirm the following requirements first.

Requirement 1: The Instagram account is professional

Personal Instagram accounts cannot be added to the Emplifi platform. To switch to a professional account, see Instagram’s article How to set up a business account on Instagram.

Requirement 2: The Instagram account is linked to a Facebook business Page

Due to Meta API limitations, only Instagram business accounts connected to a Meta business portfolio asset that contains a Facebook business Page can connect to Emplifi UGC. To link the accounts, see Facebook’s article Add or remove an Instagram account from your Page.

Requirement 3: The Facebook account has the required permissions

The Facebook account you log in with must have full or partial access (Content, Messages, Community activity, Ads, and Insights) to the Facebook Page, the Instagram account, or both. To configure permissions, see Facebook’s article Give, edit or remove Facebook Page access.

Verify Your Instagram and Facebook Account Setup

Verify your Instagram account is a business account

1. Open Instagram on your mobile device.
2. Go to Settings → Account → Switch Account Type.
3. Check the options shown. If you see options to switch to a Personal Account and a Creator Account, your account is already a business account and this requirement is met.

Verify your Facebook Page role

1. Open Facebook on a desktop browser.
2. Go to your Facebook Page.
3. Click Settings → Page Roles.
4. Confirm your name is listed under Admin.

Note: If you were appointed as an Admin within the past week, wait until that week has passed, then reconnect both your Facebook and Instagram accounts in Emplifi UGC.

Verify your Facebook Page and Instagram account are linked

1. Open Facebook on a desktop browser.
2. Go to your Facebook Page.
3. Click Settings → Instagram.
4. Confirm your Instagram business account is listed as connected.

Note: An Instagram business account can be connected to only one Facebook Page.

Connect Your Facebook and Instagram Profiles in Emplifi UGC

1. In the Emplifi UGC module, go to Settings → Social Profiles.
2. Connect your Facebook profile and log in with your personal Facebook account.
3. Connect your Instagram profile.
4. Confirm the briefcase icon appears next to the connected profile.

Note: You log in with your personal Facebook account, but Emplifi collects content only from the Page, never from your personal Facebook account.

If the Briefcase Icon Does Not Appear

If you have verified every requirement above, connected both profiles, and the briefcase icon still does not appear, reconnect the profiles before any further troubleshooting.

1. Go to Settings → Social Profiles in Emplifi UGC.
2. Disconnect both your Facebook and Instagram profiles.
3. Reconnect each profile.
4. Check whether the briefcase icon now appears.

If the icon still does not appear, submit a request and include the Instagram account name, the Facebook Page name, and the steps you have already tried.
